Harry started at LSC in November 2017 as an Apprentice Coach in Manchester office, one of the company’s three cities (Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool), and he’s enjoying the challenge!
What inspired you to go into coaching?
“I’ve played football at school right the way through from year 4 to recently when I’ve played Sunday League football, and played with Saturday teams too. I’ve played at Maine Road and Macclesfield Town as well as at Styal FC, all at open age groups.”
Harry did have some parental support to get into football at a young age.
“Because I was enjoying football so much, my dad looked up teams on the internet to see who I could play for. I played with various local teams and now I’m with the reserve squad of Cheadle Town FC, a semi-professional team based in South Manchester.”
What attracted you to an Apprenticeship at LSC?
“I’ve always enjoyed physical rather that academic study so it’s encouraging that you don’t have to be a sat at your desk to get on in your career.
Typically, I start the day at the office and do whatever’s needed to be done, then I go to do my school coaching which is good fun then I go to coach at an after-school club – so it’s really varied, and I get to meet and work with lots of different people. If someone was thinking about becoming an apprentice, I’d say, do it! It’s one of the best experiences you’ll have and by getting experience in job it will help you do what you want in the future. You’ll be able to get qualifications and get the work-experience that you need, while getting paid, which is bonus!”
What do you hope to do in the future?
“One of my ambitions is to have a senior role here at LSC and although I enjoy football and it’s been good to learn about other sports and activities, so learning more about those will be good. Since being here I have learnt a lot about other sports including dodgeball, tennis, cricket and rugby; they’re all really fun and entertaining to coach, and the children enjoy them too.”
If you had to explain your experience in just one word what would it be?
“Challenging!!”
